Morton Isn't Just One District

Morton Borough itself is Springfield School District, same as the township that wraps around it. But the Morton, PA 19070 zip code reaches past the borough line into Ridley Township, and that piece answers to Ridley School District instead. Amosland Elementary has a Morton mailing address and runs under Ridley SD, which tells you everything about trusting the envelope over the actual line.

Secane Is Split, Full Stop

Secane never had its own borough government to begin with. It's an unincorporated community straddling Ridley Township and Upper Darby Township, and the district simply follows whichever one you're standing in. Cross into the Ridley Township side and you're Ridley SD. Cross into Upper Darby Township and you're Upper Darby SD. Two houses on the same block, two different school systems, one shared zip code that doesn't care which side you're on.

Swarthmore Has the Same Problem as Morton

Swarthmore Borough itself feeds Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, one of the most sought-after names in the county. But the Swarthmore, PA 19081 zip code doesn't stop at the borough line. Part of it reaches into Ridley Township and feeds Ridley School District, and another slice reaches into Springfield Township and feeds Springfield School District. A Swarthmore address guarantees Wallingford-Swarthmore schools about as often as a Morton address guarantees Springfield, which is to say not always.

Havertown Mostly Means Haverford Township, Except at the Edges

Havertown is the postal name for essentially all of Haverford Township, and most of it runs through the School District of Haverford Township, a strong district in its own right. But along the Upper Darby line, a thin strip of what gets marketed as Havertown actually sits inside Upper Darby Township, which means Upper Darby School District, not Haverford. If a listing near that border calls itself Havertown, confirm the township before you fall for it.

Media Is the Big One

The Media, PA 19063 zip code is enormous, and it never bothered to respect a single school district line. Media Borough, Middletown Township, Upper Providence Township, and Edgmont Township all feed Rose Tree Media School District. Nether Providence Township and Rose Valley, still "Media" on the envelope, answer to Wallingford-Swarthmore instead. A slice of Marple Township in that same zip code goes to Marple Newtown, and a piece of Aston Township goes to Penn-Delco. Four school boards, one mailing address, and not one of them coordinating with the others on where the line actually falls.

How to Actually Check Before You Fall in Love with a House

The fix is simple, and I run it on every showing that touches one of these zip codes: check the specific address against the actual township line, never the zip code or the neighborhood name on the listing. The county's parcel and GIS lookup will show you exactly which municipality a property sits in, and the school district follows automatically from there, since it always tracks the township, not the mail.
